I decided to try my hand at leatherworking. It looks pretty interesting and it can be done at the kitchen table (my wife frowns on using the saws indoors). I went to the leather shop and grabbed a few supplies, read up a bit on it, and jumped in. I’m not too terribly interested in tooling yet. Just making basic utilitarian projects. I made this simple card wallet designed by Justin at MakeSupply. He has a free template and a nice video tutorial. I did all the stitching by hand, which turned out better than I expected. I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out!
This isn’t my favorite style of wallet, but it was a nice introduction into leatherworking. My next project will be a bi-fold wallet (Also one of Justin’s free templates).
I really enjoying working with this new material. I’m hoping to incorporate more leather into my woodworking projects as well. Things such as drawer pulls, hinges, and liners. I guess we’ll find out where this goes. It sure opens the world of new possibilities.
